Inmarsat users in Nepal – Service Notification

28 Apr 2015

BGAN users in Nepal are advised to point their terminals at the APAC satellite where possible, but to try EMEA if the terrain blocks visibility of APAC.

We have just been informed from Inmarsat side of the following service notification for users located in Nepal.

Further to the earlier communication relating to the Earthquake event in Nepal, in anticipation of increased demand, Inmarsat has reconfigured its network to provide GSPS services over Nepal from the EMEA region (via the 4F2 satellite) in addition to the APAC satellite to provide increased availability in this mountainous region.

Inmarsat BGAN service is fully supported through the APAC satellite, and their team currently working to provide additional coverage through the EMEA region (again via 4F2): this is currently in place for users in the vicinity of the Everest basecamp, and should be increased to the rest of Nepal in the near future.

Users in Nepal are advised to point their terminals at the APAC satellite where possible, but to try EMEA if the terrain blocks visibility of APAC.
